Hearts 2 Hibs Women 0

0 12

Hibernian Women made the journey across the city to Tynecastle Stadium to face Hearts in a ScottishPower Women’s Premier League match.

Two goals in the second half, coming from a Georgia Timms penalty and a near-post strike from Jessica Husband, gave the home side all three points, and the Capital Cup, at Tynecastle.

There were two changes to the Hibs side that defeated Apollon in Cyprus last week. Eilidh Adams came in for her first start of the season, replacing Tegan Bowie, while the other change saw teenager Jess Ramsay replaced by Kirsty Morrison.

The first chance of the game came the Hibees' way as Stacey Papadopoulous had a shot from 20 yards blocked by Danique Ypema out for a corner. The resulting corner was well worked, as Ciara Grant played a short corner into Morrison, who laid it off back to Grant, whose shot was well parried by Rachael Johnstone after three minutes.

Hibernian were close to opening the scoring at Tynecastle after 25 minutes. Adams done brilliantly to glide past Lizzie Waldie on the left-hand side and delivered a dangerous ball to Kathleen McGovern, whose first-time left-footed shot was saved low by Johnstone at her near post. The ball rebounded to McGovern, but her second attempt hit the side netting as the Hibees looked to open the scoring.

Hibs had another chance after 33 minutes when Grant delivered a terrific free-kick from the left-hand side. The cross from Grant met the head of Adams, but her powerful header went just over the bar as the sides remained level in the Derby.

Hearts’ first big chance of the game came on the stroke of half-time, as Lauren Wade made a great run in behind Caley Gibb, which opened space for her to cross it into the box, though Carly Johns headed just wide past Noa Schumacher’s post.

The first chance of the second half came the hosts’ way as Johns received the ball at the penalty spot with her back to goal and found the space to turn and shoot, but her shot was saved by Schumacher just two minutes after the restart for the second half.

Hibs’s first chance of the second half came the way of Rosie Livingstone as Adams played a great pass wide for the tricky winger to run onto, with her powerful left-footed shot saved well by Johnstone ten minutes after the restart.

Hibs then had another chance to open the scoring as Ellis Notley delivered a great corner to the back post, which met the head of McGovern, though it was saved brilliantly by Johnstone with her feet to keep the tie level.

Hearts then went up to the other end of the pitch and had a great chance to open the scoring themselves as Olufolasade Adamolekun found space on the left-hand side to cut in onto her right foot and hit a powerful strike to the far corner, which Schumacher saved brilliantly to keep the derby level on 58 minutes.

Hearts were awarded a penalty after 67 minutes as Schumacher brought down Timms inside the penalty area. Timms then subsequently stepped up and took the penalty herself, calmly slotting it past Schumacher to put Hearts ahead in the derby.

Alongside youngster Jess Ramsay, recent arrival Milly Boughton was introduced for Hibernian late on as a substitute - marking her first appearance for the Club.

After a quiet spell which saw neither team unable to threaten often, Hearts would double their lead in the 82nd minute. Two of the Hearts’ substitutes combined as Jenna Slattery played a great through ball to Jessica Husband, who finished into the top corner of the near post to put Hearts two ahead and seal the win for the home team.
