24x: £44m Man Utd star has won more possession than any Premier League player
Manchester United have had a mixed start to the Premier League campaign with four points from three games.
The club also suffered a surprise penalty shoot-out loss to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.
Despite this, there have been positives to carry forward. They were undoubtedly the better side against Arsenal.
United face Manchester City and Chelsea after the break, and will need to be at their best to beat both clubs.
Squawka have now revealed the most possession won by a player in the Premier League thus far.
Captain Bruno Fernandes tops the list with possession won on 24 occasions, well ahead of the chasing pack.
In a separate post from Squawka, Fernandes has been ranked as the fourth-best midfielder in the Premier League this campaign with a score of 67 percent.
While the Portuguese has had more possession from a central midfield role this season, his output has been hindered with just 7.94 passes in the final third.
Fernandes has yet to register an assist for the Red Devils from his new role.
Fernandes has had to adapt to the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
The attacking duo have operated from the number 10 roles, with Fernandes shifting to central midfield.
This has obviously reduced Fernandes’ attacking output.
While he has won the most possession this campaign, the £44 million-rated star has been prone to losing possession too. He has lost the ball 15 times per outing.
That is incredibly high for a central midfielder. Fernandes likes to take risks with his distribution and tends to break into the final third to create chances.
However, he needs to show better defensive resolve and positional awareness in his new position.
The Portuguese could be back in his preferred number 10 role after the international break if Cunha does not recover in time from his hamstring injury against Burnley.
