Report: Stones 0-0 Chelmsford City

0 7

There was unsurprisingly little in the way of goalmouth action in the first half. Both sides had played just 48 hours beforehand and the conditions were hot. One of the few chances came with seven minutes gone when Harry Barbrook drew Nathan Harness into making an excellent save.

Four minutes before the break, Leo Hamblin’s hooked effort might have been creeping just over the bar. However, Chris Haigh took no chances and pushed it over for a corner.

Not long after this, John Gilbert slipped the ball into Dajon Golding. Golding was forced wide but went for goal from a tight angle and shot into Haigh’s arms.

Maidstone started to slightly up the tempo in the second half. On 55 minutes, Deon Moore found Gilbert who moved it into the path of Golding. Golding took a touch to come inside of the Chelmsford defender before clipping a shot which dropped inches wide of the far post.

Seconds later, Golding was involved again. This time he crossed for George Fowler and Haigh tipped his header over the bar.

Golding’s last contribution before he was substituted came on 65 minutes. Corne played the ball into the Maidstone forward and Golding passed back to Corne whose curling effort went wide.

There wasn’t then a huge amount to note until the fourth minute of stoppage time. Substitute Josh Redfearn did well to win a hopeful long ball forward and he laid it off to substitute Jesse Nwabueze whose effort went high and wide.
