K-State soccer improves to 2-0 for first time since 2018 with win over Portland State
MANHATTAN (KSNT) - One week, two wins for the K-State soccer team.
The Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the young season Sunday, taking down Portland State 2-0 at Buser Family Park.
It's the first 2-0 start for K-State since the 2018 season.
"Nothing better than a 2-0 opening weekend on the home turf," K-state head coach Colleen Corbin told 27 Sports. "I couldn't be more proud of the group and all the hard work they did to get to this point."
After a scoreless first half, sophomore forward Hanna Palmer would find the back of the net after a perfect cross from Mabry Williams.
"Not every team can say they're unbeaten right now, so it's important to keep going," Palmer said. "Today we're happy about the win, but tomorrow we'll be focused on the next one."
Through two games, Palmer has scored a goal and added two assists for the Wildcats.
The 'Cats followed up in the 82nd minute with a free-kick goal by Williams.
"We're super grateful," Williams said. "We've been working hard all preseason, but we just have to continue working from here."
The sophomore forward scored her first goal in a K-State jersey since transferring from Oklahoma State a season ago.
K-State outshot the Vikings 18-3 and had 11 corner kicks, two shy of the program record.
The Wildcats will hit the road on Aug. 21 to take on South Dakota.
