Harry Kane impressed by Yamal as Bayern Munich star hints at possible Champions League clash with Barcelona
Lamine Yamal has burst onto the global soccer scene with outstanding performances despite his young age. This has earned admiration not only from fans but also from his peers. Among them is Harry Kane, who praised the Spanish winger while also discussing a possible encounter between Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
“He’s a fantastic player,” Kane said when asked about Yamal during a recent interview with Marca. “Obviously, doing what he’s doing at such a young age is incredible. It looks like he has a great future ahead.”
Immediately, the 32-year-old English star referred to the chances of facing Lamine in the near future. Considering one plays in Germany and the other in Spain, the only way for that to happen is in a European competition: “Let’s see if we face Barcelona in the Champions League this year,” Kane speculated.
The only previous meeting between Yamal and Kane took place precisely in last season’s Champions League. There, Barcelona hosted Bayern Munich in the opening round at Montjuic, securing a commanding advantage. Lamine started for the Spanish side, which won 4–1 with a hat trick from Raphinha and another goal from Robert Lewandowski. Kane scored the lone goal for the Germans.
Kane makes his predictions for the 2025-26 Champions League
In the same Marca interview, Kane shared his expectations for the 2025–26 season. “I think this Champions League will be similar to every year,” he said, before highlighting Bayern Munich as one of the serious contenders. “We will be one of the favorites.”
However, the English star also acknowledged that other teams have enough firepower to compete for the title. “PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City, Liverpool… All the big teams will have their eyes on that trophy,” he said.
Still, Kane made it clear there are closer goals and the need to take things step by step. “There’s still a long way to go from now until that final,” Harry said. “We’re looking forward to the draw at the end of the month to see who we’ll face in the group stage. Step by step, we try to move in the right direction.”
Bayern Munich started the season strong
This Friday, Bayern Munich secured the first trophy of the 2025–26 season by defeating Stuttgart 2–1 in the German Super Cup. Now, they have a few days of rest before the Bundesliga kicks off: as reigning champions, they will headline the league opener next Friday against RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena.
