Amorim says two Man Utd stars are out of Arsenal game
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided an update on the first-team ahead of the Premier League curtain-raiser against Arsenal at Old Trafford this weekend.
The Red Devils take on the Gunners in Sunday’s much-awaited fixture, and Amorim has revealed that the club will be without Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui due to injuries.
He added that Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana have recovered well after returning to team training, and the pair will be assessed.
Amorim also revealed that Benjamin Sesko is ready to play. A late decision will be made on whether he starts against the Gunners.
He said: “Nous and Licha are out. They cannot play in this game. Josh recovered, Andre recovered, they are options for this game, we will see.
“Of course. [on Sesko] We didn’t have a lot of time but he’s ready. First of all, physically, he’s ready. That is a big component in our league. Then, he’s really smart.
“Every detail he asks, he’s a guy that is always thinking. He spends all afternoon here working on his fitness, so he’s ready to play, we will see if he’s going to start.”
United finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League last season with 42 points.
They had the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League by beating Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, but squandered that chance.
Despite this, there has been plenty of positivity this summer with the hierarchy backing the manager with a spending spree of more than £200 million.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko have added immense quality in the final third. The trio should add more goals and creativity into the current squad.
United beat Arsenal in the FA Cup third round on penalties last season, but they have not won in the last five league meetings with four losses and a draw.
The Red Devils can make a big statement this weekend by beating the Gunners, who have not lost a league game against the ‘Big Six’ in 21 matches.
