Predicted Tottenham XI vs PSG in UEFA Super Cup final as Richarlison starts
Thomas Frank will be hoping to get off to a winning start in his first competitive game as Tottenham boss in the UEFA Super Cup tie against Paris Saint-Germain. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face PSG on Wednesday.
Tottenham Hotspur are heading into their second European final in the space of three months, having recently edged past Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League.
The Lilywhites now face French champions and UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final, marking Thomas Frank’s first competitive fixture as Spurs manager.
Frank is expected to name his strongest possible XI for such a high-profile clash, to match PSG’s firepower and assert Tottenham’s intent for the season ahead. The stakes are high, and the smallest of details could prove decisive.
Here is our predicted Tottenham XI for the UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Predicted Tottenham XI vs Paris Saint-Germain
Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: The Italian looks set to retain his place as first-choice goalkeeper, having started and completed the full ninety minutes against Bayern Munich in pre-season.
Right-back – Pedro Porro: Frank has deployed Porro in various tactical setups this summer, and with minimal competition for his position, the Spaniard should keep his spot.
Centre-back – Cristian Romero: Romero struggled in the Bayern game, but Tottenham will need him at his commanding best if they are to contain PSG’s attacking threat.
Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: The Dutchman also found it difficult against Bayern’s attack, and will have to step up in this final.
Left-back – Djed Spence: With Destiny Udogie still sidelined and Ben Davies unlikely to feature, Spence is expected to take the left-back role.
Pivot midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: Against Bayern, Bentancur operated slightly further forward in the double pivot. Expect him to revert to the deeper role here.
Pivot midfielder – Lucas Bergvall: Joao Palhinha looked off the pace on his debut, so Bergvall may be preferred alongside Bentancur for his energy and composure.
Attacking midfielder – Pape Matar Sarr: With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski both unavailable, Sarr is likely to continue as the makeshift number ten.
Right winger – Mohammed Kudus: Kudus has played mainly on the right in pre-season, and Frank is expected to stick with that setup.
Striker – Richarlison: Dominic Solanke’s fitness remains in question, so Richarlison will need to be more clinical than he has been in recent outings.
Left winger – Wilson Odobert: The choice here is between Brennan Johnson and Odobert, but the latter is expected to start after Johnson’s underwhelming showing against Bayern.
