Growing hope at Man Utd that goalie & £115m+ midfielder could both be snapped up - Miguel Delaney

There is growing hope at Manchester United that they might be able to complete deals for both Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

He claimed in his ‘Inside Football’ weekly newsletter today that the Red Devils still have room for more signings.

They have recruited Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo and Benjamin Sesko for over £200 million, but it has not eaten into the budget as much as expected.

Man United could do with a new goalie as Andre Onana has not played a competitive game since the Europa League final due to an injury, and Donnarumma could prove to be an upgrade.

PSG are willing to negotiate on the Italy international having left him out of their UEFA Super Cup squad, but the Old Trafford club currently believe his wages would be too high.

Baleba wants to join Man United and his personal demands will not be an issue.

However, the Seagulls want more than the £115m they received from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo in 2023.

It is unknown whether the Red Devils are ready to break their transfer record on a defensive midfielder.

Man United still need to sell to raise funds, but they are not under plenty of pressure to do so given how the deals for their three major signings so far this summer were structured.

They are expected to sell the likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and possibly Rasmus Hojlund, and moving them on will give them the necessary space to bring in players if need be.

Adding both Donnarumma and Baleba to their squad will make Man United a more formidable opponent in the domestic competitions this season.

Their fans will be hoping a deal for either player goes through before the end of the summer transfer window.
