'It's unbelievable': Amorim praises £24m star after Fiorentina game, could be starting vs Arsenal - opinion

Manchester United concluded their pre-season with a 1-1 draw versus Fiorentina on Saturday.

The Red Devils played without a specialist striker for the entire friendly.

Mason Mount started as the false number nine ahead of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, and manager Ruben Amorim was undoubtedly impressed by his display.

Speaking after the game, the Portuguese tactician said: “It’s unbelievable the way he [Mason Mount] works, moving all the time from positions.

“He knows all positions, but also the other guts, it was a good test to prepare the first team.”

Mount had a solid outing against La Viola at Old Trafford. The £24 million-rated star had a passing accuracy of 91 percent and made a couple of recoveries in 84 minutes.

The Englishman kept good control and was dispossessed only five times. Mount moved into the number 10 role in the second half and linked up well to create a chance for Cunha.

Judging by Amorim’s glowing words, the former Chelsea man could start as the false striker for the Red Devils when they host Arsenal in the Premier League opener next weekend.

Benjamin Sesko was only unveiled as a new signing yesterday and may require multiple sessions under his belt before he can adapt to the playing style and the league’s intensity.

Amorim may plan to use Sesko as a secret weapon against Arsenal. The Slovenian could be utilised to create chaos as a substitute. His unpredictability could unsettle the Gunners’ defence.

Rasmus Hojlund was an unused substitute amid AC Milan’s pursuit of his services. United are looking to push him through the exit door, and he is unlikely to start against Mikel Arteta’s side.
