Man United stars 'fully behind' Amorim's boldest decision yet
Manchester United are set to kick off their 2025-26 Premier League campaign next weekend.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United players were fully behind Ruben Amorim’s decision to omit the ‘bomb squad’ members from the core squad’s training sessions and tour.
The ‘bomb squad’ comprised Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho.
The club stated that all five players had communicated a desire to leave Old Trafford this summer.
Amorim axed them from the pre-season tour and all team training sessions until their futures are resolved.
He also mentioned that any of these five players would be welcomed back if they are unable to find a new club.
Rashford has already secured a loan move to La Liga giants Barcelona.
The 27-year-old has taken a pay cut, with Barcelona covering his entire salary.
Chelsea are heavily linked with a move for Garnacho before the conclusion of this window.
United value him at around £50 million but Chelsea are hoping to sign him at a bargain later this month.
Antony is eyeing a return to Real Betis after an impressive six-month loan spell earlier this year.
Betis are hoping to sign him on another loan as they consider the £40m price tag too high.
Sancho and Malacia appear to have no future under Amorim, but interest in the pair has been lukewarm at best.
Freezing out five senior players is a statement of intent and one of the most decisive moves Amorim has made since taking charge.
Encouragingly for fans, the rest of the squad is firmly behind their manager’s no-nonsense stance.
If United are to bounce back from last season’s disastrous 15th-place finish, the entire club must pull in the same direction.
Another year of underperformance could trigger far-reaching consequences, both on and off the pitch.
