ATTACKING JITTERS
Only two more Fridays before the season starts… pretty damn exciting if you ask me.
So let’s get into it… the mission at the start of the window was to add to our attacking options and make the club more deadly in front of goal. Where are we on that front? Right now, I’d say we might have had the third-best summer in the Premier League because, right now, I’d say Liverpool have added more heft to their attack than Arsenal, and after watching United drop £208m on their attack… I think I’m prepared to say that they have added more output heft than Arsenal have. I’ve not based that on Šeško, more on the fact that they have added two Premier League-proven talents, in their prime, with valuable output numbers.
Arsenal have added Gyökeres, who is a wildly talented goalscorer, but with a Portuguese tax, and we have Noni Madueke… a player no one had on their bingo card eight weeks ago. Good players, but neither of them are starting against Manchester United.
Now, I could be convinced that Max Dowman looks like an outrageous prospect the likes of which we’ve never seen before, but he’s not 16 until December, and though I feel his success is inevitable, pinning our season on him would be aggressive. Ethan Nwaneri just signed a new long-term deal, which is massive, but again, he’s a teenager, and resting Premier League seasons on teenagers isn’t the way.
