Man Utd now eyeing move for 20yo Italian star, £35m would seal transfer
Manchester United could pursue a new central defender, according to Tuttosport.
The Red Devils have had a productive summer transfer window. The onus has been on bolstering the forward department after a dismal 2024/25 season.
Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have already been signed, while RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is expected to join the club within the next 48 hours.
There could be more signings made, and Tuttosport (via FirenzeViola) claim that the Red Devils have been monitoring Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo in pre-season.
Sunderland and Nottingham Forest have also been tracking the young centre-back, who was the subject of interest from Napoli at the beginning of the year.
Fiorentina turned down £26 million plus bonuses from Napoli last winter, and they are expected to hold out for at least £35m to sanction his sale this summer.
Man Utd could pursue late deal for Comuzzo
The 20-year-old had a good breakthrough season with Fiorentina, with 44 appearances in all competitions.
The centre-back won 60 percent of his duels alongside three clearances and three recoveries per game.
Comuzzo also caught the eye with his tackling and distribution from the right centre-back position.
The young Italian has made a big impression in Florence, and United could seek to bring him to Old Trafford.
A transfer can’t be ruled out, given the ambition shown by INEOS with their significant spending to support the manager.
They have already made a huge outlay of £134 million on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to bolster the attack.
The spending spree is set to exceed £200m with the expected arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig for £74m.
The club are also eyeing a defensive midfielder and have their sights on landing Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba.
A centre-back could be signed too to compensate for the departures of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans this summer.
Comuzzo would be a perfect fit, given he is only 20 years of age and has the potential to become an elite central defender.
