Man United reach agreement for highly-coveted star, deal should be wrapped up this week

0 5

Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesko, bringing the club closer to their third major attacking signing this summer.

According to The Athletic, a deal worth €76.5million (£66.4m) and €8.5m (£7.4m) in add-ons has been agreed, while Sesko has been given permission to travel for a medical test ahead of the conclusion of the deal.

The 21-year-old has agreed on personal terms with United and is expected to sign a long-term deal for the club until at least June 2030.

The Manchester outfit have been long-term admirers of the Slovenian international and have been linked with him before his move to Leipzig.

With the club struggling for goals in the Premier League last season and missing out on first-choice target Liam Delap to Chelsea, they decided to reignite their interest in him.

The pursuit of the Slovenian star has been driven by the director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, who was in charge at Leipzig when the German outfit signed him in 2023.

Vivell has played a crucial role in helping United reach an agreement with Leipzig, beating Newcastle United to the signing of the young striker.

Newcastle submitted a bid of €82.5m (£71.8m) plus €2.5m (£2.2m) in add-ons, which was accepted by Leipzig on Tuesday, but Sesko has opted to join Man United.

Arsenal also attempted to sign him earlier in the transfer window but were priced out of a move for him.

The Leipzig striker has been one of the most promising stars in the top five leagues in Europe for the past two seasons, scoring 27 goals in the past two seasons in the Bundesliga.

He is known for his athleticism, shot power, and aerial prowess, generating interest from various European clubs.

United should complete the deal by the end of this week and Sesko could be ready for the league opener against Arsenal on August 9.
