Aston Villa renew transfer interest in Barcelona forward: report
Barcelona forward Ferran Torres is reportedly on the radar of Aston Villa as the summer transfer window moves into its final month.
Villa have had to move slowly so far but the imminent arrival of Ivorian striker Evann Guessand isn’t expected to be the end of Monchi‘s dealings.
Torres hasn’t established himself in the starting line-up since he joined Barcelona from Manchester City but has continued to offer an impact from the bench and can be deployed anywhere in the front line.
His pace, athleticism, ball-carrying ability and versatility suit the way Unai Emery likes to organise his team and it is reported that Emery specifically is keen to bring Torres to Villa Park.
Villa have reportedly already made an approach worth around £35 million for Torres but Barcelona’s demands put a stop to any immediate hopes of a deal and a lack of Champions League football is bound to work against the potential move. Nevertheless, Villa’s interest remains.
Torres signed for the Catalan side in January 2022. Since then, he has featured 158 times and registered 44 goals and 20 assists. The forward, who has 49 international caps, scored nine of his 19 goals from the bench.
Torres has Premier League experience
Previously, Torres joined Manchester City in 2020 and won the Premier League and the League Cup as well as reaching the Champions League final.
The Spanish international failed to cement his place. He was only able to contribute 16 goals and four assists in 43 games. He suffered a metatarsal fracture in October 2021 and Guardiola allowed him to leave in the winter transfer window.
There were times when he displayed a glimpse of brilliance, like when he netted a hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Newcastle United on the road in May 2021. He was also instrumental in a 5-0 rout versus Arsenal in August 2021 but endured a goalless spell as he struggled to fulfil his formidable potential in the Premier League.
