Man United could sign 20yo goalkeeper, he was on trial at Everton

0 2

Manchester United are strengthening their youth ranks while continuing their aggressive first-team rebuild ahead of the new season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are considering signing goalkeeper Abdulla Al-Hammadi.

Al-Hammadi is currently on trial at Carrington and could be offered a contract.

The 20-year-old was recently named on the Under-21 bench in a 1–1 draw against Rochdale, further fuelling speculation over a potential permanent deal.

He previously featured as a trialist goalkeeper for Everton in March, keeping a clean sheet for the Toffees’ U21s.

Al-Hammadi is a former captain of the UAE Under-18s and could now earn a place in United’s development squad if his trial is successful.

The Red Devils have already been active in the goalkeeper department this summer.

Young shot-stopper Radek Vitek penned a new deal before heading out on loan to Championship side Bristol City recently.

Highly-rated teenager Elyh Harrison also completed his season-long loan move to League Two club Shrewsbury Town last month.

Should Al-Hammadi sign, he will likely battle with Dermot Mee and William Murdock for the starting spot at U21 level.

There are also uncertainties surrounding the futures of first-team shot-stoppers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Both senior goalkeepers have made several high-profile errors between the sticks over the last two years.

United have signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

They are now edging closer to bringing striker Benjamin Sesko to the Theatre of Dreams.

The Red Devils are keeping an eye on Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

However, any new signings after Sesko are likely to hinge on the sale of a few senior players deemed surplus to requirements.
