Man Utd star expect to sign a new contract despite fresh transfer interest

Manchester United could be on the verge of making a major call regarding the future of former club captain Harry Maguire.

The 32-year-old defender has less than one year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, United have rebuffed approaches from clubs in the Premier League and Italy for Maguire.

Clubs enquiring about his availability have been told the likelihood is that Maguire is likely to extend his contract and spend the rest of his career at Old Trafford.

The England international secured a switch to the Theatre of Dreams from Leicester City in a record-breaking deal worth £80 million in 2019.

The initial few years at United were not a bed of roses for Maguire.

The Englishman became a hero when he headed the match-winning goal against Lyon to complete a sensational 7-6 aggregate triumph.

Talks of a contract extension now feel less surprising and more like a reward for resilience.

Rather than splashing millions in the transfer market, United may prefer to rely on a Premier League-proven defender already in their ranks.
