Another striker now wants to join Man Utd, has 162 career goals, £40m could sign him

0 4

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is keen on a move to Manchester United and around £40 million could be enough to sign the England international, according to the Sun.

The Red Devils want his RB Leipzig counterpart Benjamin Sesko but Newcastle United could be set to pip them to his services.

Watkins is monitoring the situation and is ready to join Man United if they come calling as head coach Ruben Amorim looks to bolster his attacking ranks.

The 29-year-old, who has 162 career goals in 444 professional appearances, believes it is time to leave the Villa Park club after Arsenal came calling in January.

The Midlands club are desperate to remain compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules after UEFA fined them earlier this summer for breaching their financial rules.

Villa could now be forced to sell key players, and a bid of between £40m and £50m could be enough to get Watkins.

He brings much-needed Premier League experience to the table and has constantly proven himself over the years.

Man United could do with such a number 9 and he is possibly their back-up plan should a move for Sesko fall through.

The Old Trafford club need a proven goalscorer leading their line after adding Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to their attack, and Watkins fits the bill.

He is an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, and Man United can be guaranteed of his immediate impact, which makes him a safer bet as opposed to Sesko who has yet to play in the Premier League.

The likes of Chido Obi, Zirkzee and other strikers in the youth set-up will get to benefit from the signing of Watkins as they can learn one or two tricks about what it takes to become a solid Premier League striker, and it is a deal Man United should look to get done.
