Report: Patriots’ Offseason Addition ‘Fine’ After Health Scare
New England Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams returned to the team in late July following an offseason medical scare.
The new hire was forced to exit Monday’s training camp session early, though his departure was unrelated to the situation over the offseason. Furthermore, Williams is reportedly doing “fine.”
“#Patriots DC Terrell Williams has been treated for dehydration after leaving practice today. He is ‘fine,'” Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald posted on Bluesky. “His departure today had nothing to do with his leave from the team in the spring.”
“Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams was treated for dehydration at today’s practice. He left practice midway through with the help of medical staff as part of taking extra precaution,” ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported on Bluesky.
The 51-year-old Williams had a long career as a college and NFL defensive line coach before landing his first coordinator post in January.
His coaching days began at Fort Scott Community College in 1998 and has included stops at North Carolina A&T (1999-2001), Youngstown State (2002-03), Akron (2004-05), Purdue (2006-09) and Texas A&M (2010-11). Williams jumped to the NFL ranks in 2012 with the then-Oakland Raiders, where he stayed through the 2014 campaign.
Since then, he’s been the defensive line coach with the Miami Dolphins (2015-17), Tennessee Titans (2018-2023) and Detroit Lions (2024). Williams worked with Patriots first year head coach Mike Vrabel in Tennessee for his entire six-year stay with the Titans.
