Cowboys Superstar Micah Parsons Officially Requests Trade
Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons dropped a major bombshell on the NFL preseason by announcing a trade request Friday.
In a lengthy social media post, Parsons revealed that he formally submitted a trade request to Cowboys CEO and executive vice president Stephen Jones. The pass rusher is entering his final season under contract.
“Yes I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet,” Parsons wrote. “I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America’s team once again. The team my pops grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately I no longer want to be here.”
Parsons said the Cowboys declined to discuss an extension after the 2023 season. The 26-year-old told his agent to inform the team that they were open to talking at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine. Although his agent advised him to wait for other star edge rushers to enhance the market price with new deals, Parsons insisted he was more concerned about securing a long-term contract with Dallas.
Parsons claimed not to have heard from the team until speaking with Jones in March. Since the meeting was about leadership and didn’t involve his agent, Parsons didn’t consider those conversations a formal negotiation. However, the team told his agent a deal was “pretty much already done.”
Meanwhile, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently made some curious comments when referencing the time Parsons missed with an ankle injury last year. Parsons re-tweeted a post from J.J. Watt admonishing the apparent dig.
“Up to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract,” Parsons claimed. “Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet, but again, after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives, I have made a tough decision. I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.”
Moving Parsons before the 2025 season would be a monumental development. The two-time All-Pro has anchored Dallas’ defense with 112 quarterback hits and 52.5 sacks during four Pro Bowl seasons.
