Man Utd open talks with club for 'world-class' £35m star - report

0 16

Manchester United have been in talks with Paris Saint-Germain regarding their goalkeeper.

The Red Devils have had a productive summer transfer window with three signings.

There could be more activity in the coming weeks. A new striker is a priority.

A goalkeeper could also be pursued, and Gianluigi Donnarumma has emerged as a top target.

According to journalist Marc Mechenoua, the Red Devils have enquired about Donnarumma’s situation with PSG.

However, the club are unlikely to pursue a deal for the £35 million-rated star unless there is a significant clear-out.

A goalkeeper should not be a priority

United presently have Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton as the senior goalkeeping options.

Onana is on the sidelines recovering from a hamstring injury, but he is anticipated to return in the lead-up to the curtain-raiser against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Bayindir and Heaton have got starts in the last two friendlies, and one of them could get the nod between the sticks if Onana does not prove his fitness to face the Gunners.

Heaton may be 39, but made a superb save with his right foot against Bournemouth this week. Hence, the club may not prioritise a goalkeeper before the transfer deadline.

The scenario could, however, change if the club receive a lucrative offer for Onana. There was Saudi interest earlier this year, but no bids have been placed thus far.

Donnarumma’s agent could be angling for a Premier League move with the goalkeeper’s contract expiring next summer, but United seem unlikely to pursue a deal.

The club are focused on landing a marquee striker and may spend the rest of the budget on this.

Donnarumma, described as ‘world-class‘ by The Athletic, could still end up in the Premier League with Chelsea said to be interested in landing his signature too.
