Man United youngster with ‘immense ability’ poised for League Two move

0 6

Manchester United have agreed to send goalkeeper Elyh Harrison on loan to League Two side Shrewsbury Town for the 2025/26 season, according to Manchester WORLD.

He is set to become the sixth youngster to leave on loan this summer, joining Joe Hugill, Habeeb Ogunneye, Sonny Aljofree, Enzo Kana-Biyik, and Dan Gore.

Shrewsbury were relegated from League One last season and have already strengthened their squad with the additions of Sam Stubbs, Tom Anderson and Sam Clucas this summer.

They are now set to add Harrison to their goalkeeping ranks, joining Toby Savin, with whom he will compete for a starting berth.

Harrison joined United in 2022 from Stevenage and has featured regularly for the U18s and U21s.

His best season at the academy was in the 2023/24 campaign, when he won the Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Season award.

Harrison left United on loan for the first time last season to gather first-team experience, joining National League outfit Chester.

He featured in 18 games, conceded 16 goals and kept seven clean sheets to earn the praise of manager Calum McIntyre, who described him as a goalkeeper with ‘immense ability‘.

However, United recalled him in January to spend the rest of the season training with the first team and playing for the academy.

Harrison then re-established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the U21s and was named on the bench for six Premier League matches and two Europa League games.

He was excluded from the 30-man squad for the pre-season fixture against Leeds United on Saturday, suggesting that he was on the verge of leaving the club again.

The 19-year-old will now hope to get enough playing time at Shrewsbury to get valuable experience, which could help him break into United’s first team.
