Mets Reportedly Open To Trading These Four Players; Could Red Sox Be Fit?

The New York Mets obviously aren’t expected to deal away any of their stars at the trade deadline, but they are said to be open to moving infielders on the margins. A couple compelling options exist for the Boston Red Sox.

The Mets are open to moving Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio, Mark Vientos or Luisangel Acuña, according to The Athletic.

Off the top, Acuña represents perhaps the least likely option. He has not hit particularly well at the major league level and is essentially a platoon utility player. His biggest asset is strong shortstop defense, but the Red Sox already have plenty of contingencies at that position.

Vientos is similar. His bat has upside, as evidenced by a strong 2024, but that offense has evaporated in 2025. He’s hitting .221 with a .627 OPS this season and is not a particularly strong third baseman.

Baty and Mauricio are the more realistic of the two.

Baty is interesting because he has developed into a decent defensive second baseman. He’s a natural third baseman, but was moved to the keystone for more playing time. His offensive results have been mixed in the majors, but he’s at times flashed the bat he’s shown in the minors.

There has been a revolving door at second base for the Red Sox since Kristian Campbell was sent down. Baty is hitting .236 with 10 homers and a .711 OPS, and could potentially stabilize second base.

Mauricio largely has served as the Mets’ third baseman, and while he hasn’t found his offensive footing with New York, he’s displayed tremendous power in stretches throughout his minor league career.

Mauricio can play just about anywhere and has team control for four more years. His MLB exposure has been as a rookie in 2023 and then this season, coming off an ACL injury. In other words, there might be more to tap into there, even if it’s not this season.

In the end, the Red Sox have a ton of versatility in the infield, so none of the four Mets represent an obvious upgrade. Baty and Mauricio are options you can dream on, but certainly wouldn’t fall under the “big splash” umbrella.
