Man Utd now hold talks to sign £100m Premier League striker - report

0 7

Manchester United are likely to sign a new striker during the ongoing transfer window.

The Red Devils have had a productive summer with two high-profile acquisitions.

Matheus Cunha was signed by the club last month. Bryan Mbeumo recently completed his medical at Carrington and is expected to join from Brentford soon.

A marquee striker could be the next priority, and journalist Nizaar Kinsella now reports that United have held talks with Nicolas Jackson’s representative Ali Barat.

Kinsella added that a move could depend on potential outgoings. There is a possibility of a swap deal as Chelsea hold a long-term interest in Alejandro Garnacho.

Jackson won’t provide a big upgrade upfront

The Senegal international had a decent second season with the Blues. He managed 10 goals and five assists in the Premier League, but just three of those contributions came from January.

Jackson had a shot-to-goal conversion rate of only 13 percent and squandered 19 big chances. The 24-year-old is a decent striker but won’t provide a big upgrade on United’s existing striking options.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirzkee underperformed last campaign under manager Ruben Amorim, but the pair should fare better following a full pre-season working with the head coach.

Hence, United should pursue a centre-forward with a better scoring pedigree. The Red Devils could be better off signing Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins or Crystal Palace’s Jean Philippe-Mateta.

A deal for Jackson could be very expensive and may not prove worthwhile. Chelsea value him at a staggering £100 million and may demand Garnacho as a makeweight in a player-plus-cash deal.

If United are determined to sign Jackson, they should demand a straight swap transfer.
