Red Sox Rumors: Boston ‘Very Interested’ In This Trade Candidate
The Boston Red Sox reportedly are “very interested” in Baltimore Orioles trade target Ryan O’Hearn.
“I think that’s a trade that would not surprise me at all,” MLB reporter Steve Perrault said on Bleacher Report’s “MLB Show” released Friday. “A little birdie told me the Red Sox are very interested in getting O’Hearn from the Orioles, and that the price might not be as high as some folks might think.
“… It’s a move that I’m hearing a couple of murmurs might happen.”
O’Hearn has been linked to the Red Sox multiple times ahead of the MLB trade deadline July 31. And it makes sense. Boston could use a veteran first baseman to lead its platoon at the corner and Baltimore figures to be one of the most obvious sellers in baseball.

The 31-year-old O’Hearn is set to become a free agent following the 2025 campaign.
O’Hearn recently traveled to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, a well-deserved honor given he’s in the midst of a career year. He’s batting .282 with a .829 OPS and 135 OPS+, his highest mark since his rookie season in 2018.
While Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro have platooned admirably since the season-ending injury to Triston Casas, adding a legitimate bat like O’Hearn would be an impactful move as the Red Sox try to position themselves for October.
