Carlos Narvaez Reveals NSFW Message He Uses To Fire Up Key Red Sox Pitcher
The Boston Red Sox have gotten contributions from up and down their roster in the 2025 campaign. One of their more unsung heroes has been catcher Carlos Narvaez, who has emerged from out of nowhere to become one of the top players at his position across the majors.
Narvaez was picked up in an under-the-radar trade with the New York Yankees over the offseason, and while he was initially expected to be Connor Wong’s backup, he’s ended up stealing the starting job from him.
At the plate, Narvaez has been a revelation, as he’s hitting .273 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs. He’s also been one of the best defensive backstops in the league, as he leads the league with 43 assists and 20 runners caught stealing.
An overlooked aspect of Narvaez’s job involves managing Boston’s pitching staff. As he recently revealed, that can include some unique methods, with one seeing him hurl NSFW messages at relief pitcher Greg Weissert in an effort to fire him up.
“Weissert, you gotta be hard on him,” Narvaez said on “Section 10 Podcast.” “Every time in the moment, ‘Hey, bro … let’s (expletive) go.’ He can tell you, one time I went out there and went, ‘Hey bro, you’re being a (expletive). I need you being in beast mode right now.”
It may seem strange, but Narvaez’s strategy may be working, at least when it comes to Weissert. For the second season in a row, Weissert has been a key cog out of the bullpen for Boston, posting a 3.27 ERA with three saves and 34 strikeouts in 41.1 innings of work.
Pretty much everything is going right for the Sox currently, as they have won their final 10 games before the All-Star break. That run shot them up to the second wild spot in the American League, setting the stage for what could end up being a busy trade deadline.
One of the team’s biggest trades of the year, though, ended up getting made back during the winter when no one was paying attention. Narvaez and Weissert will look to utilize their unique partnership to help the Red Sox pick up their 11th straight win when they return to action against the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
