Journalist claims Man United still have interest in 'special' Bundesliga star
Manchester United are poised to intensify their efforts in search of a striker after reaching an agreement with Brentford for the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo.
United have submitted a £65 million plus £5m offer for the Cameroonian, and there is optimism that Brentford will accept their new bid.
Should the deal go through, Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are expected to play as the two number 10s, but United need a clinical striker to complement the duo.
With Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund unreliable to lead the attack, United are exploring the market for a new centre-forward
They have already been linked with several strikers, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
The Manchester outfit have a long-standing interest in the Slovenia international and he is reportedly at the top of their shortlist.
However, Leipzig have placed a £86m valuation on him, making it difficult for United to enter negotiations with the Bundesliga outfit.
Journalist Ben Jacobs via The United Stand has now claimed that the Red Devils’ interest in the 22-year-old ‘might still have legs’, as they keep exploring the market for a new striker.
Sesko has been linked with Arsenal in this transfer window, but the north London side have now tilted towards signing Victor Gyokeres from Arsenal.
The Gunners reportedly steered their attention away from him due to his huge valuation, suggesting that United must be ready to meet Leipzig’s demand to secure his signature.
United would need to raise funds from player sales to fund the transfer of the Slovenian striker, who has been described as ‘special’ by former Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell.
Although Sesko is currently not pushing for an exit, he could still leave Leipzig this summer, and United may intensify their interest in him late in the window if they are able to raise a sizable amount from player sales.
