Man Utd hold talks to sign £26m star, club are willing to sell - Ben Jacobs

0 1

Manchester United could bolster their defence with a new signing.

The Red Devils recently confirmed the arrival of Paraguayan wonderkid Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno.

The 18-year-old is a left-back by trade. He has revealed his ambition to play for the first team immediately.

However, United have different plans in mind for the left wing-back role.

Ben Jacobs claims that the club have held talks with the representatives of Brighton & Hove Albion star Pervis Estupinan.

The Red Devils have a genuine interest in the 27-year-old, but have yet to make a formal approach.

AC Milan are also keen on the defender, but have not made any contact on the player’s side thus far.

Brighton are willing to part ways with the Ecuadorian, having signed Maxim De Cuyper this summer.

Man Utd eyeing new left wing-back solution

The Red Devils had the opportunity to re-sign Alvaro Carreras from Benfica for £17m last winter, but opted for Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for £25 million.

Dorgu can comfortably play from the right and left wing-back positions. He has impressed with his attacking traits, but has been defensively vulnerable.

Manager Ruben Amorim could be eyeing a better competitor at left wing-back for Dorgu.

Harry Amass and Leon are vastly inexperienced. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have played there, but the position is not a natural one for either of them.

Luke Shaw can be a solution, but Amorim sees him as a left centre-back, given his injury record.

Estupinan would be a solid addition to the squad. He had a passing accuracy of 88 percent in the league last term, winning 56 percent of his overall duels.

He made an average of five recoveries, two clearances and two tackles per outing. The left wing-back did not make an error directly leading to a goal at Brighton.

The Ecuadorian has a Transfermarkt value of £26 million. With two years left on his contract, Brighton may hold out for at least that figure to sanction his sale.
