Niskayuna's Cam Grasso commits to UAlbany football
NISKAYUNA, NY (NEWS10) -- If you've watched Niskayuna play football over the last couple of years, your head has surely been turned by number one, Cam Grasso. The explosive wideout has been one of the premier playmakers in the Capital Region. He's going to keep turning heads in the Capital Region, even after his time at Niskayuna is done.
Grasso announced his commitment to UAlbany on Tuesday. The rising senior, who also starred on the Niskayuna baseball team and played basketball prior to this past season, isn't just versatile because of the amount of sports he's played, but because of how he plays the game of football.
The 6'1 Swiss army knife has primarily played wide receiver since joining the team as a freshman in 2022, but moved to quarterback last year when Ethan Gilson went down with an injury. He's also taken some carries with his 4.34 40 speed.
Grasso helped Niskayuna win back-to-back section titles in 2022 and 2023. He's totaled over 26,000 from scrimmage to go with 44 offensive touchdowns.
Grasso was sold on all the UAlbany program has to offer. "Obviously it's close to home, but the biggest factor to me was the coaching staff and the program and the players," said Grasso. "I talked to some of the players that are already there and they're like, it's a family and they love it there and it was the best decision that they've ever made. It definitely helped in my thought process."
While it wasn't the main factor, playing close to home is an added bonus. "To my mom, my dad, my brothers to my grandmothers, my grandfathers, my cousins, aunts, uncles, all of them being able to come to my games and watch those next year, it'll be really nice," said Grasso.
Grasso is gearing up for one final season with Niskayuna before heading to UAlbany.
