MIAA Football Media Days Coming to Emporia State on July 28

EMPORIA (KSNT) - It’s a busy July for Emporia State Football — from evaluating potential recruits to hosting one of the conference’s biggest events.

The Hornets held its annual summer prospect camp July 12 at Welch Stadium, giving high school athletes a chance to work directly with the Emporia State coaching staff and current players. The camp featured baseline testing such as the 40-yard dash, pro agility and broad jump, as well as position-specific drills and 1-on-1 competitions.

“It’s great,” said head coach Garin Higgins. “We’re getting closer to the season, and this is a big recruiting tool for us — especially at our level. We believe in bringing players in and developing them and cultivating them, so when they leave here, they care about Emporia State.”

That same commitment to growth and leadership will be on display again later this month — as Emporia State prepares to host MIAA Football Media Days on Monday, July 28th.

In what’s believed to be a first for the conference, the event will be held at a member school rather than an off-site venue. Coaches and student-athletes from all 10 MIAA football programs will make the trip to Emporia to preview the upcoming season.

“Our administration, athletic department — everybody stepped up,” Higgins told KSNT. “We wanted to show that Emporia State can host something like this and do it the right way. It’s a big deal for our campus and our community.”

The Hornets will officially begin fall camp in early August.
