Introducing … our Walking Football Team
Colwyn Bay Walking Football Club – New Beginnings and Promising Steps
On 12th March 2025, the newly formed Colwyn Bay Walking Football Club held its first training session at Eirias Stadium. Many of the players were already well-acquainted—having played walking football with other clubs along the North Wales coast for years, and 5-a-side football together on Monday nights in the Barn. Together, they decided it was time to launch a new club rooted in Colwyn Bay.
After approaching Colwyn Bay FC Chairman Brian Madden, the club quickly gained traction. With an affiliation secured, the team received donated kit from the 2024/25 first team and ongoing support for using the excellent 4G facility at Eirias Park.
The club now has over 20 players aged between 60 and 75, covering a wide range of footballing backgrounds and skill levels.
Walking football offers a fantastic way for both men and women to stay active, improve physical and mental health, and enjoy the social side of the game in a welcoming, low-impact environment.
In April 2025, Colwyn Bay WFC entered the North Wales Walking Football League, just in time for the new season. Despite being the new team on the block, we’re holding a solid mid-table 8th place—just a few points off the teams in 4th to 7th.
We’ve also started hosting friendlies, including a recent mini-tournament at Eirias Park featuring Colwyn Bay WFC, Rhos United WFC, and St Asaph WFC. It was a great evening of football played in the right spirit.
Looking ahead to 2026, we hope to field an Over-70s team in the league, and possibly a second Over-60s team, depending on player numbers—though like many walking football clubs, we do have a few regulars on the injury list!
We welcome new players of all abilities—men and women—for a free trial session on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the 4G pitch in Eirias Park.
