Pellegrini strives for peak fitness at Roma as he undergoes septoplasty
According to Italian newspaper the Corriere dello Sport, Pellegrini was expected to return for the first training session of the season but chose to undergo the operation in order to maintain a high level of personal fitness.
The septoplasty aimed to repair a past fracture but the midfielder is not expected to suffer any long-term absence as a result of the routine procedure.
Since returning to the Giallorossi in 2017, Pellegrini has played 228 times in Serie A for the club and has cemented himself as an experienced and vital member of the squad.
