Tottenham told they have ‘one of the most frustrating’ players to watch, despite goals galore

0 6

Jamie O’Hara has delivered a scathing verdict on one Tottenham star as Thomas Frank builds attacking depth with the addition of Mohammed Kudus.

Of course, competition for places in a team is essential for any side aiming to compete at the highest level, both in the Premier League and across Europe.

Tottenham have been working to strengthen their ranks this summer, and following weeks of speculation and planning behind the scenes, the Lilywhites have now added genuine quality in attack, particularly with the arrival of Mohammed Kudus.

Kudus has penned a long-term contract with Tottenham and is expected to provide healthy competition for both Brennan Johnson and Heung-min Son, largely due to his ability to operate across several attacking positions.

Jamie O’Hara slams Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson

Johnson experienced a mixed 2024/25 campaign, as he ended the season as Tottenham’s top scorer in all competitions with 18 goals, but came under fire from sections of the fanbase due to limitations in his overall game.

While the Welshman certainly can find space and get on the end of chances, questions have persisted regarding his ability to beat defenders one-on-one or offer reliable defensive contributions when tracking back.

Jamie O’Hara has now had his say on the matter, calling Johnson “one of the most frustrating” players to watch, as he reacted to Tottenham’s new signing, Kudus, and how he may fit into Thomas Frank’s system.

Speaking to talkSPORT, O’Hara said: “Brennan Johnson had a really good return last year, a really good return. He scored a lot of goals. He gets on the end of things and that is an art.

“But, I will tell you what, he is one of the most frustrating football players to watch. He is so frustrating to watch, because he can, I think, give more, and he does not.”

Kudus vs Johnson – Spurs have a new selection dilemma

When looking at the numbers, it is clear that Mohammed Kudus offers qualities in areas where Brennan Johnson often falls short, which could influence how Thomas Frank approaches the right-wing role going forward.

Data from last season highlights Kudus as a superior dribbler compared to Johnson, while the Ghana international also ranks amongst the best for winning attacking duels in high areas, with only Lamine Yamal outperforming him in that metric.

That said, when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net, Johnson remains the more clinical of the two, having outscored Kudus by six goals in the Premier League last season, netting 11 to the former West Ham forward’s five.

It presents a healthy and intriguing selection headache for Frank, with both players offering contrasting strengths.
