Alex Cora Issues Update On Hunter Dobbins Injury

The Boston Red Sox were dealt a tough blow when starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins exited the game in the second inning.

Dobbins was making his first start since June 20 and suffered a right knee injury while covering first base on a groundball hit deep behind the bag. He attempted to stay in the game, but was clearly in pain after throwing a warm-up pitch.

The Red Sox used seven pitchers to complete the game. The bullpen performed admirably; all three runs surrendered were unearned.

After the game, Alex Cora offered an update on the injured pitcher.

“[We don’t know] much yet. He said he felt it when he jumped for the throw and when he landed,” Cora said. “We’ll see.”

If Dobbins does need to spend time on the injured list, the Red Sox can recall Richard Fitts. Fitts was sent to Triple-A Worcester after his start on July 8, but can be recalled to replace an injured player without any timing restrictions.

The Red Sox have two games left before the All-Star break. Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello are scheduled to start and will have to go deep to give the bullpen a break.
