Former MLB Star Details Roman Anthony’s Recent Hot Stretch

It hasn’t taken long for Boston Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony to earn praise from various baseball insiders and talking heads.

The top prospect in MLB has been on a tear over his last five games, and earlier this week, Anthony became the fifth player in Red Sox history with 17+ hits in a 10-game stretch while aged 21 or younger. After collecting another three hits on Tuesday, MLB Network hosts and former big leaguers Sean Casey and Mark DeRosa detailed what makes Anthony a special hitter.

“Roman Anthony going dead center for his first bomb out there in Boston,” said Casey. “Such a sweet swing hitting through the baseball. So good. I mean, just the way he goes about his business. And you watch him here, Man, I’ll tell you one thing about this guy. Crazy juice and the ball jumps off his bat. You want to talk about one of the best hard-hit percentages in the game. That’s what I love about him.”

While Anthony’s at-bats showed promise during his first 15 games, his batting average fell below .200, and he was coming up short despite making hard contact. When speaking about his approach over the last 11 games, Casey was quick to point out how his metrics have greatly improved during his recent breakout at the plate.

“When I talked about this percentage right at the beginning, look at his splits during his first 15 games,” said Casey. “Okay, he’s kind of getting his feet wet figuring things out. But then you see the last 11, man. This is elite stuff, the on base, the slug, weighted runs created plus. putting the ball in play, 62.9 hard hit percentage.”

Anthony, who will make his professional debut in left field on Wednesday, is batting .253 with 23 hits, two home runs and 12 RBI in 91 at-bats this season.
