McGrath Reflects On Positive Night
Hibernian midfielder Jamie McGrath insists there were plenty of positives to take from our 3-2 victory over Rot-Weiss Essen at Easter Road.
McGrath got off to - in his words - "a dream start" after he swept home the first goal of the match inside two minutes.
Further goals from Junior Hoilett and Martin Boyle secured a 3-2 win over the German side in what was a highly entertaining game from start to finish.
“It was a good game, it was a good workout – I think at this stage of the season that is the main thing, McGrath told Hibs TV.
"We need to get the hard runs in us and make sure we are getting fitter every game – so it was a good run-out from that perspective, we all got something out of it.
“It was a really enjoyable night personally for me, it was my first night at Easter Road in a Hibs shirt and it kind of felt like a European game with their travelling support. It was a very positive experience.
“We had a really good start, we came out of the traps flying – we could’ve been another goal or two up at half-time.
“I should’ve scored with my first touch – it was a dream start really, Millsy did really well down the wing and put in a great ball. He was raging that he didn’t get the assist because I didn’t get the first one, but thankfully I put the second one in."
The creative midfielder played 90 minutes at Easter Road, and despite only being at the Club for less than a month - McGrath insists he feels at home at Easter Road.
“It has been a great month so far, the boys have been amazing with me – I feel part of the group already. Playing in front of the fans was class tonight, I have played here many a time, but it was nice to be a home player here and it felt like the crowd were behind us tonight.
“I know it was only a friendly, but they turned out in their numbers and it was a really good game.”
