Man Utd have to spend £10m to sign Club World Cup star before Everton, good wildcard transfer - opinion
Manchester United will need to spend £10 million to prise away goalkeeper John Victor from Botafogo this summer, according to Bolavip.
The Red Devils are aiming to reinforce the goalkeeping department ahead of next season.
Andre Onana has been inconsistent between the sticks. The same can be said for Altay Bayindir, who has barely impressed as the deputy.
Bayindir is anticipated to leave in search of regular first-team football, and it has been claimed that Victor could be his successor.
Goal recently mentioned that Victor could be signed for a release clause of just £5.86 million, but Bolavip claim the goalkeeper will cost more.
Botafogo owner John Textor is standing firm on the £10m price tag and won’t entertain the 29-year-old’s departure for anything less this summer.
Victor would be a good signing even at £10m
The Brazilian has had a huge impact since his move to Bologna. He was brilliant last season as the club won the Copa Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A titles.
Victor has continued his fine form this campaign. He has a save success rate of 81 percent in the Brazilian top-flight with a passing accuracy of almost 80 percent.
The 29-year-old also impressed for Botafogo at the Club World Cup. He made 3.3 saves per game and secured a sensational clean sheet to beat Paris Saint-Germain.
In our view, Victor would be a good wildcard signing for the goalkeeping department.
He is in the peak phase of his career and would provide strong competition for places to Andre Onana, who made five errors leading to goals in the last campaign.
Onana continues to share a good relationship with manager Ruben Amorim, but the Portuguese tactician would surely want a good deputy if a replacement is required.
Bayindir has barely impressed since the FA Cup third round win over Arsenal last winter. He has been average with his distribution, and a change seems necessary.
United should pay £10m to bring in Victor as his replacement. He had a £5.86m release clause in his contract, but that may have expired based on Textor’s stance.
Everton consider Victor as a potential backup for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. United must be proactive to secure a deal ahead of the Merseyside outfit this summer.
