Red Sox Announcer Shuts Down Feud With Giants Fans Over Rafael Devers Controversy

Boston Red Sox radio broadcaster Will Flemming inadvertently found himself in some hot water with San Francisco Giants fans on Tuesday.

While speaking about the Rafael Devers trade via WEEI on Monday, Flemming shared a story about Devers blowing off fielding practice with former Giants first baseman Will Clark shortly after arriving in San Francisco.

“I was there the second day. Will Clark was there to work on ground balls with him at first base, and Raffy didn’t show up,” Flemming said. “So that’s the person that (the Red Sox) have been dealing with for a long time.”

Clark confirmed the story during his own WEEI appearance on Tuesday, saying Devers no-showed him on three separate occasions despite publicly claiming he was willing to play any position for the good of the team.

However, that didn’t stop Giants fans from attacking Flemming online, causing him to address the controversy and defend himself on X.

Flemming once again confirmed the veracity of the story and added that he wasn’t trying to smear Devers.

“Since the whole of SF seems mad at me, I just want to clarify again: I was repeating a story that one of the great Giants told on his own pod,” wrote Flemming. “I’m not trying to push a narrative or opine about the trade. No one has any ill-will toward Rafi, it was just time for a change here.”

Hopefully that gets San Francisco fans off Flemming’s back once and for all. They may not like hearing the truth about their new superstar, but that doesn’t mean they should shoot the messenger.
