Jarren Duran ‘Would’ve Had Word’ With Alex Cora If This Happened

Red Sox manager Alex Cora had no plans to pull Brayan Bello during his complete game against the Colorado Rockies, but Jarren Duran was going to make sure of it.

After seeing Kristian Campbell get up, Duran thought Cora was going to the mound to pull Bello before he could finish the game.

“I saw Campbell get up and I was thinking in my head, ‘A.C., if you pull Bello right now I’m gonna have a word with you after the game,’” Duran joked to reporters, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “I would have to try and stop Bello because the way he was going, I feel like he would have fought to stay out there. Truthfully, I feel like if A.C. came out, Bello would have put up a good enough fight. A.C. would have been like, ‘Get it done then. Don’t waste this mound visit.’”

The left fielder didn’t realize that Cora wasn’t going to take Bello out.

“He was efficient, so I wasn’t going to take him out,” Cora said on Tuesday. “We put some good innings to expand the lead, but he was under control (on Tuesday) the whole time.”

Bello threw 107 pitches to help the Red Sox to a 10-2 win over the Rockies. In the 26-year-old’s complete game, he gave up five hits, two runs and one walk, striking out 10 batters.

He was on pace to shutout Colorado, but Hunter Goodman’s two-run home run in the ninth inning spoiled it for Bello.

The game marks the pitcher’s second complete game after his six-inning complete game in 2022 during a 2-0 loss to the New York Yankees.
