Man Utd are now "in talks" to sign 26yo UCL star, he can depart for £51.7m - report
Manchester United have already opened talks to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson this summer, according to Goal.
The Red Devils have had a good start to the summer transfer window.
They have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, while discussions are ongoing with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo.
Goal now claim that the club are ‘in talks’ with the representatives of Ederson. Inter Milan and Juventus have likewise done the same.
United were reportedly interested in recruiting the 26-year-old during the summer of 2024, but Atalanta decided against his transfer.
The Champions League outfit are now prepared to sanction his sale for £51.7 million.
United unlikely to sign Ederson from Atalanta
The Red Devils have held a long-term interest in the Brazil international and were keen on landing him from Atalanta before the purchase of Manuel Ugarte last summer.
However, Atalanta had no plans of parting ways with him. The door has now opened for a transfer, but United may not have the funds to meet the demands of the Bergamo side.
The club have committed to paying £62.5 million in three instalments for Cunha while Mbeumo is expected to cost a much higher package. The Bees may want £70m.
United are also actively searching for a new striker. Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins was recently linked.
In our view, the club may not be able to afford a deal for Ederson unless they can recoup sufficient funds from player sales.
United are poised to receive £7.4m from Anthony Elanga’s transfer to Newcastle United. They agreed on a 20 percent sell-on clause (profit) when he made the switch to Nottingham Forest.
Besides this, the Red Devils are not close to securing incoming funds. They want to offload Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony, but the trio are prioritising moves to particular clubs.
Similarly, Alejandro Garnacho wants to stay in the Premier League next season. With Inter and Juventus also in the race for Ederson, United could miss out on him unless they can seal quick exits.
