Alex Bregman Opens Up About Rehab Progress And Return Date

Alex Bregman was selected to play in the All-Star game, and is trying to get back on the field before then.

Bregman has been out since May 23 with a quad injury and is approaching a return to action. After the Boston Red Sox beat the Colorado Rockies 9-3 on Monday, Bregman spoke to the media about a return date.

“Whether it’s the end of this week or the first game after the break, one of those two, but I’m hoping it will be the end of this week,” Bregman said, as seen on the NESN postgame show.

The Red Sox finish the first half of the season with four games against the Tampa Bay Rays, beginning on Thursday.

When asked about a rehab assignment, the third baseman wasn’t definitive one way or another, but downplayed the need to play games in the minor leagues.

“We still have to have another discussion tomorrow, but I feel like I can go and play and be ready to go.”

Although he wants to be back before the All-Star game, Bregman won’t play in the game. He told the media that while he’s honored to be selected, he’s focused on maintaining his health. He did note that he’ll be in Atlanta and is hoping to take his son to the home run derby.
