£65.7m duo meet Man United team-mates for the first time as pre-season begins

0 3

Manchester United have officially kicked off their pre-season schedule today.

Manager Ruben Amorim arrived ahead of time, having been spotted at Carrington on Friday. He has now been joined by some players.

New signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon are two of those who have joined the Portuguese tactician.

Cunha is United’s first signing this summer, arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £62.5 million deal.

The Brazil international is expected to play a key role under Amorim. United hope he can significantly impact the attack after his impressive performances for Wolves last season.

The 26-year-old scored 15 goals in the Premier League last season, seven more than United’s top scorer, Bruno Fernandes.

Leon, a young left-back, arrives with less expectation, having arrived from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno for an initial fee of £3.2 million, which could rise to £7m with add-ons.

His performances in pre-season could determine his role next term, given that Patrick Dorgu is the first-choice left wing-back while Harry Amass and Luke Shaw can serve back-ups.

Cunha, Leon and their new team-mates ‘are all following individual schedules’, as is the norm when players just resume for pre-season.

According to The Sun, captain Bruno Fernandes and right wing-back Diogo Dalot have been given ‘extended leave’ following the tragic passing of their international team-mate Diogo Jota last week.

Action starts when United face rivals Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena on July 19 before the team jet off to the US for the Premier League summer series.

The Manchester outfit will face West Ham United, AFC Bournemouth, and Everton during the pre-season tournament.

Preparation for the new season ends on August 9 when United face Italian side Fiorentina.

Other Man United players who have arrived for pre-season

Amad, Harry Amass, Toby Collyer, Matthijs de Ligt, Tyler Fredricson, Tom Heaton, Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo, Noussair Mazraoui, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Luke Shaw, and Joshua Zirkzee.
