Man Utd now poised to submit offer to sign Club World Cup star - report
Manchester United have had a good start to the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The club are also in advanced negotiations with Brentford for the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo.
There could be more additions to the squad, and Brazilian outlet Meia Hora (page 10) report that United are close to formalising a bid for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor.
United had a representative at the Club World Cup to watch Victor, and their interest has increased following his standout performances at the tournament for Botafogo.
The Red Devils are ‘expected’ to make an official bid in the ‘coming days’.
Victor could replace Bayindir in the United squad
The 29-year-old had a fantastic league campaign with Botafogo. He had a save success rate of 81 percent in Serie A, completing almost 80 percent of his passes.
Victor was also impressive at the Club World Cup, where Botafogo registered a shock win over Paris Saint-Germain in the group phase. He averaged 3.3 saves per game in the United States.
His performances on the big stage have enhanced his reputation. He could now make the switch to European football and can be signed for a release clause worth £5.86 million.
United may see him as a competitor for Andre Onana, who has been error-prone between the sticks. The Cameroonian star made five errors leading to goals in the past campaign.
Victor could be signed as a replacement for Altay Bayindir, who has failed to meet expectations.
Barring his standout display against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round last winter, the Turkey international has looked vulnerable between the sticks for the Mancunian giants.
Bayindir is reportedly eyeing regular first-team football ahead of the World Cup next year. United could be open to parting ways with him if they secure a deal for Victor.
