Man Utd will have to pay £35m to sign 'world-class' star this summer - report
Manchester United are eager to overhaul their attack after enduring a difficult 2024-25 season.
The Red Devils have already completed a summer swoop for Brazilian livewire Matheus Cunha, snapping him up from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo could be the next one to move to Old Trafford, but the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement on the final transfer fee.
Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku has also emerged as a name of interest, though United have yet to make a formal approach.
According to The Mirror, Chelsea have slapped a £35 million price tag on the Frenchman, who is reportedly surplus to requirements under manager Enzo Maresca.
Despite registering 15 goals and five assists across all competitions last season, Nkunku struggled to make an impact in the league, managing just three Premier League goals amid inconsistent game time.
With his role reduced and his starting spot far from guaranteed, Nkunku is believed to be actively seeking a fresh challenge away from Stamford Bridge.
The France international is also mis-profiled in a 4-3-2-1 formation at the London outfit.
Maresca has mostly deployed him in a number nine role, but Nkunku is more suitable in a second striker role.
Nkunku, described as ‘world-class‘ by Bundesliga.com, truly flourished at RB Leipzig, where he racked up an impressive 47 goals and 43 assists in just 117 appearances.
His standout performances came when operating behind the striker, ghosting into the box with clever movement and killer instincts.
He could operate in one of the number 10 positions under United head coach Ruben Amorim.
However, the Red Devils must prioritise other positions once they have completed the deal for Mbeumo.
They are already well-stocked with Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo, all capable of excelling in the number 10 roles.
