Jamal Musiala injury update: Report reveals how long Bayern star will be out after collision with PSG’s Donnarumma

After his severe injury in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 against PSG's Donnarumma, reports revealed the time Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala will be out.

Jamal Musiala’s shocking injury raised serious concern among players and fans during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 quarterfinal between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. After hours of medical evaluation following a collision with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, new reports have revealed the expected recovery timeline for the Bayern star.

Just before halftime, Musiala chased a loose ball into the box following a pass from Michael Olise. With William Pacho shielding it, Donnarumma came off his line and collided with Musiala, landing awkwardly on the attacker’s left leg and causing a devastating injury that left him writhing in pain.

Referee Anthony Taylor blew the whistle for halftime just moments later, allowing medical staff to attend to Musiala. The 22-year-old was stretchered off the pitch and taken directly to the hospital, where scans confirmed the severity of the injury.

According to German outlet BILD, Musiala suffered a fractured left fibula, and several ligaments were also damaged in the incident. As a result, he is expected to be sidelined for four to five months—a massive setback for both the player and Bayern.

The injury is a major blow for Bayern Munich, who will now be without one of their most dynamic players for a significant portion of the season. With the Bundesliga’s winter break spanning much of December and January due to weather conditions, Musiala’s earliest possible return is likely to come in late January or early February.

Manuel Neuer slams Donnarumma

Donnarumma appeared visibly distressed after the incident and later posted an apology on Instagram, writing, All my prayers and well wishes are with you,” in reference to Musiala. While there was no apparent intent to injure, the Italian keeper’s initial reaction did not sit well with Bayern’s veteran goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer.

In Jamal’s case, it’s a situation where you take a risk—one that, in my opinion, you just don’t need to take,” Neuer told BILD. “Of course we wish him the best and hope it’s not as serious, though it probably is. Throwing yourself in like that is dangerous. You’re accepting the risk of injuring your opponent.”

Additionally, Neuer revealed that he went up to the PSG‘s goalie while the medical staff were treating Musiala on the field to ask him to apologize. “I went up to him and said: ‘Don’t you want to go see him?’ Jamal is lying there, he’ll probably end up in the hospital— I think it’s a matter of respect to go check on him, wish him well, and say sorry. Then he went over to Jamal,” he explained to the German outlet.
