Ex-Red Sox Reliever Dies After Battle With Stomach Cancer

Bobby Jenks died after battling an aggressive form of stomach cancer on Friday.

He was 44.

The Chicago White Sox announced the news on Saturday, sharing that the former World Series champion was battling adenocarcinoma and ultimately succumb to the disease in Sintra, Portugal.

Jenks was one of the best closers in baseball across his six-season run in Chicago, and ultimately signed a two-year contract to join the Boston Red Sox in 2011. Jenks was only able to pitch a handful of games for the club, however, before injuries and a botched surgery led to the end of his career.

Jenks is survived by his wife, Eleni Tzitzivacos, their two children, Zeno and Kate and his four children from a prior marriage, Cuma, Nolan, Rylan and Jackson.
