Tottenham and Liverpool both interested in RB Leipzig defender with £76m release clause
Tottenham are monitoring Castello Lukeba as the club continues to assess centre-back options this summer, with the RB Leipzig defender reportedly attracting interest from across Europe.
Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham Hotspur remains uncertain despite reports claiming that Spurs are looking to offer the Argentine centre-back a new contract.
Regardless of the centre-back’s situation, Tottenham have still gone on to make a new centre-back addition to their squad, signing Kota Takai from the J League this summer for £5 million.
While Takai has received loads of praise from pundits and analysts alike, reports still claim that Tottenham are admiring other centre-back options this summer.
Tottenham show interest in RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba
This report comes from Footmercato, who now states that Tottenham Hotspur are amongst a host of clubs who have shown interest in RB Leipzig’s centre-back Castello Lukeba.
The France under-21 international has impressed since his move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, making over 50 appearances for the German outfit and keeping 11 clean sheets in 23 Bundesliga outings last season.
He was signed as a replacement for Josko Gvardiol following the Croatian’s transfer to former Premier League champions Manchester City and has since made a name for himself in the German top flight.
The defender, who played 31 matches last season, is also attracting interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool, and is reported to have a €90 million (£76 million) release clause.
Spurs could strike a deal below Castello Lukeba’s release clause
However, despite his steep release clause, it is claimed that he is open to leaving Leipzig this summer and that the Bundesliga side would be willing to sell for less than the buy-out figure.
Footmercato further states that sides looking to negotiate a deal with the player, including Spurs, can do so now that the 22-year-old defender has returned from the under-21 European Championship.
Lukeba is contracted to Leipzig until 2029, but it is believed that it would not be an issue for clubs interested in the French international, who could be on the move this summer.
