Bassett add twin threat and Portuguese spark

0 3

It's been a summer of change for Royal Wootton Bassett Town with many of last season's Men's First Team side moving on to pastures new. Faced with a rebuild, manager Jonny Aitkenhead is focusing on youth. And the recruitment of twins Otis and Marcel Lewis and dynamic central midfielder Miguel Alves emphasises the quality of talent the new boss has been able to attract ahead of the 2025-26 Hellenic League Premier Division season. All three are highly talented youngsters with experience at Southern League level or above. And all three will be key members of Aitkenhead's squad this season. Profiles of the players are available below. All three players are available to sponsor for the 2025-26 season for just £50. If you are interested in sponsoring any of our Men's First Team players, please contact Chairman Paul Gerrish (paul.gerrish@rwbtfc.co.uk; 07946 629483) or Head of Men's Section Rab MacLeod (robert.macleod@rwbtfc.co.uk; 07980 876176).

Miguel Alves

Alves is a young, technically gifted and highly talented central midfielder who joins Bassett this season after returning from a long term injury. A natural leader and very positive player who always looks for his team to be on the front foot, he will captain Bassett this season. Born in Portugal, Alves is a product of Chippenham Town's academy. He has Southern League experience too, having featured prominently for Highworth Town in their 2022-23 Division One Central campaign, while also boasting brief spells with North Leigh and Evesham United.

Marcel Lewis

A product of Bassett's youth section, Lewis is an explosive, energetic and exciting young winger who rejoins the club this season alongside his brother Otis. A relentless player, on his day he is a nightmare to defend against. After his time with Bassett, Lewis joined Chippenham Town's academy. Lewis' strong performances there saw him elevated to Chippenham's first team squad on numerous occasions, and across the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons he featured seven times for the National League South Bluebirds. Lewis also made a half dozen appearances for Southern League Melksham Town in 2023-24 and spent most of last season with Westbury United, scoring three goals in 23 games. He previously had a brief loan spell with Bassett, featuring twice in 2021-22.

Otis Lewis

Like brother Marcel, Lewis came through Bassett's youth section and rejoins the club this season. He is a direct, competitive and forward thinking central midfielder who also brings plenty of creativity. After featuring in Bassett's youth section Lewis was then a member of Chippenham Town's academy and possesses Southern League experience. In 2023-24, after a brief spell with North Leigh, he made a half dozen appearances for Melksham Town. Lewis started last season with Westbury United before joining Corsham Town - where he played 13 times, scoring three goals. He then finished the campaign back in the Southern League with Cribbs. Lewis made a single Men's First Team appearance with Bassett in 2021-22.
