Tottenham told to sign midfielder with 34 Premier League goals who is better than James Maddison

Jamie O’Hara has weighed in on whether it would be worthwhile for Tottenham Hotspur to spend big on Eberechi Eze, amidst reports that the North London side are willing to pay a club-record transfer fee for the Crystal Palace star.

Several sources have reported over the last week that Tottenham want to make Eze their marquee signing at the start of the Thomas Frank era.

Reports indicate that Eze is in favour of swapping Crystal Palace for Spurs as the England international wants to play Champions League football.

Over the last few days, it has been claimed that Tottenham are ready to meet Eze’s £68m release clause, which would make the 26-year-old the club record signing for the Lilywhites, beating out the £65m they paid for Dominic Solanke last summer.

Jamie O’Hara is desperate to see Eberechie Eze at Tottenham

Some Spurs fans may not be completely convinced that the Eagles star is what Tottenham need, given that they are well stocked for attacking midfielders, with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall at the club.

However, O’Hara believes that Eze is a better and more dynamic player than Maddison, and suggests that the Palace would be used on the wing by Thomas Frank.

When asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of the versatile attacker, O’Hara told talkSPORT: “I think he [Eze] would be a brilliant signing for us. I really do, I think it would be a top signing… Maddison’s a bit more of a number 10, he gets into little pockets.

“Eze, for me he’s a winger, he cuts inside he makes things happen comes off the flank and can get at you, he can play direct, he can go down the byline if he needs to. Maddison hasn’t got his pace, Maddison hasn’t got his power, I think Eze is probably a better player.”

What role has Thomas Frank envisioned for Eze?

It was reported a few days ago that Frank believes that Eze can complement Maddison in a dynamic attacking setup at Spurs.

Additionally, a number of sources have claimed that Tottenham view Eze as an alternative to Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo.

That suggests that Frank sees the Palace star as primarily a wide option who can cut in from the left rather than as a number ten.
