How Kyle Harrison Performed In Debut With Red Sox Organization

When the Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, the team acquired four players who the front office believes will make a major impact for the organization.

That being said, Red Sox fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see right-hander Jordan Hicks and left-hander Kyle Harrison playing in Boston.

Currently on the 15-day injured list with toe inflammation, Hicks had to shake off some rust on the mound during his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Worcester last week. Harrison, the talented 23-year-old centerpiece acquired in the Devers trade, made his first appearance with Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Harrison allowed four earned runs on eight hits in four innings. He struck out four on 76 pitches. His four-seam fastball hovered around the mid-90s but reached 96 mph. Harrison also featured a changeup, slider, and slurve which he used to get a swinging strikeout during the first inning.

Taking the mound with a 1-0 lead, Harrison was roughed up during the first inning. After allowing a one-out single, Bryan De La Cruz connected on a 94 mph fastball for a two-run blast to give Scranton a 2-1 lead. Harrison then struck out the final two batters in the inning and limited the damage.

Harrison got two quick outs to begin the bottom of the second inning before allowing a single to Duke Ellis. He would get the next batter to ground out to third baseman Blaze Jordan to end the inning,

He found himself in trouble again during the bottom of the third after allowing the first three batters to reach base. With two outs, CJ Alexander laced a line-drive single to left field that scored two more Scranton runs.

Harrison allowed two more singles during the bottom of the fourth inning but was able to catch Jorbit Vivas looking for the final out. He was replaced by left-handed Chris Murphy to begin the bottom of the fifth.
