Ange Postecoglou’s 125-word speech that propelled Tottenham to Europa League glory

0 3

Ange Postecoglou’s rousing speech before the Europa League final has been revealed in full as Tottenham went on to lift the trophy in Bilbao.

Of course, not many would have agreed with Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, after he delivered Spurs’ first piece of silverware in 17 years and their first European trophy in four decades.

However, a club like Tottenham does have standards, and for Daniel Levy, being competitive on all fronts – particularly the Premier League – is of great importance.

Postecoglou failed in that regard, as he led Tottenham to their worst-ever domestic campaign, with the Lilywhites finishing fourth from bottom, losing 22 matches in the Premier League.

Ange Postecoglou’s emotional speech before Tottenham’s Europa League final

While the League was horrendous for the Australian manager, the Europa League was the exact opposite, as Ange Postecoglou managed to drag Tottenham to the final and delivered on his second-season trophy promise.

Spurs Play has now shared some behind-the-scenes footage of that historic run, which includes Postecoglou’s heartfelt pep talk before Tottenham took to the pitch in Bilbao, Spain.

The manager’s speech struck an emotional chord, as he told his players that they could not be stopped, urging them to go into battle as 11 brothers determined to give back to all those who had made sacrifices for them.

He said: “Remember why we do this. It is not just about winning things. It is about paying back. Giving to people who love us and make sacrifices for us.

“So you walk out today, not just 11 brothers. Walk out today with all of us with you, with all those people with you.

“The thousands in the stadium with you, hundreds of thousands back home with you. We are the biggest army. They cannot stop us… they cannot stop us. What we have cannot be stopped.

“Just go out there, play our football, be like a family. At the end of the game, when he is lifting that trophy, you are going to make all those people prouder than they have ever been in their life.”

Spurs fans rewarded after difficult domestic campaign

Tottenham lifted the Europa League trophy, beating Manchester United 1-0 on the night, ending their abysmal 2024/25 campaign in the best way possible.

Postecoglou and the players did repay the fans who had made several sacrifices throughout what was a season to forget by giving them one of the best moments of their lives in recent memory.

Of course, following his remarkable achievement, Thomas Frank – the new Tottenham head coach – was quick to call Postecoglou a legend, stating that he hopes to build on the foundations the former boss left behind.

For all the criticism Ange came under, one thing is clear: the manager did know how to tap into his emotions and those of his players in an outstanding way.
